Barry Zito still qualifies as an ace based on his salary. His ten ERA, however, does not qualify him for a starting rotation. Hes great at keeping the bases empty this year, but once men get on he falls apart. Hell try to right himself against Chris Young and the Padres.

Cliff Lee pitched better in his start against the Yankees, although he still hasnt returned to his 2008 control. He draws Brian Bannister, making his 2009 debut as the Royals play the Indians.

In the Boston nightcap, Francisco Liriano faces former ace Brad Penny. Its not clear why Lirianos ERA stands at 5.09. His OBA allowed and slugging percentage allowed are low, and the batting average against him with runners in scoring position is okay. Three games of bad luck? Penny has gone beyond parity in his walks and strikeouts, issuing seven free passes in nine innings while only recording three Ks.

Finally, Roy Oswalt tries to make it two in a row against the Dodgers as he takes on Randy Wolf. Oswalt is simply giving up two many hits as opponets are hitting .300 against him with a .486 slugging percentage.
