INSIDE PITCH

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Brewers left-hander Manny Parra, who entered the game with a 0-4 record and 6.52 earned run average, got himself squared away with six solid innings. Parra allowed only three hits and one run, with four walks and eight strikeouts.

TURNING POINT

Pinch hitter Tony Clark's foul drive down the left-field line was called fair by umpire Brian Gorman, resulting in a two-run double, the key blow in the decisive four-run rally in the eighth inning by Arizona that erased the Brewers' 2-1 lead.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

* Brewers rightfielder Corey Hart made a marvelous running, sliding catch of Josh Wilson's pop fly down the line, leading off the third inning, to rob him of a hit.

* After Arizona's Conor Jackson walked with two down in the top of the first, Parra threw wildly to first on a pickoff attempt, allowing Jackson to advance to second. Parra stranded him there by catching Mark Reynolds looking at strike three.

CLUBHOUSE CONFIDENTIAL

Leftfielder Ryan Braun, one of the players selected to sign pregame autographs on "Autograph Friday," seriously considered wearing a surgical mask because of concerns about the outbreak of swine flu. He changed his mind, but did take the mask and a bottle of hand sanitizer to his signing station. "I'm genuinely concerned," said Braun, who noted that some local schools had closed because of the spreading disease.

STATITUDES

* Right-hander Yovani Gallardo was selected the Brewers' pitcher of the month for April after going 3-1 with a 2.86 ERA in five starts. He also batted .333 (4 for 12) with two homers and four RBI. Braun was the player of the month after batting .317 with five home runs and 16 RBI.

* Chris Duffy's run-scoring single in the seventh inning was only the fourth hit by a Brewers pinch hitter in 26 at-bats (.154) and the first RBI.

* Until being charged with four runs in the eighth inning, the Brewers' bullpen had gone 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA over the last eight games.
