GAME REPORT D'BACKS 4, BREWERS 1
INSIDE PITCH

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Dan Haren pitched eight innings and allowed one run on four hits. He walked two and struck out 11.

TURNING POINT

Chris Snyder's two-run double off the left-field wall in the fifth inning scored Justin Upton and Eric Byrnes. That hit proved to be the difference in a three-run inning.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

* Ryan Braun didn't start because of a stiff back that first bothered him Friday night.

* Shortstop J.J. Hardy sat out a second consecutive game. Manager Ken Macha is trying to get him going offensively, hoping some rest will be the answer. Hardy is expected to be in the lineup Sunday.

CLUBHOUSE CONFIDENTIAL

Discussing the Brewers' offensive bench woes, general manager Doug Melvin said the bench players haven't had many chances to start or pinch hit, and a lot of that has to do with the Brewers' pitching. It might sound odd at first, but with the Brewers being at the top of the National League with 14 quality starts it doesn't leave many chances to hit for the pitchers, since they're going deep into games. Entering Saturday's game, the Brewers had only 26 pinch-hit appearances, ranking them at the bottom of the league.

STATITUDES

Through the first 23 games this season, the Brewers walked 94 times. Through 23 games last season, they walked just 69 times.
