PLAYER OF THE GAME

Yovani Gallardo threw eight innings, didn't allow a run on two hits and struck out a career-high 11 batters without walking one.

TURNING POINT

Gallardo might as well fill all the categories because his seventh-inning solo home run that broke a scoreless tie proved to be the winner.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

Chris Duffy made his second start of the season in center field. Manager Ken Macha said it was to rest Mike Cameron, and an day game after a night game was a good opportunity to do so. In fact, Macha told Cameron he didn't have to report to Miller Park until 11 a.m. for the 12:05 p.m. start.

CLUBHOUSE CONFIDENTIAL

There have been a lot of inquiries about who is the Brewers' team leader, or de facto captain. And while Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder can be leaders based on the numbers they put up, the no-doubt leader is Cameron, who can lead with words and by example. And Macha confirmed that Wednesday morning, saying the veteran commands instant respect in the clubhouse and players seem to gravitate toward him. Macha has even gone to Cameron first to discuss clubhouse issues before making decisions.

STATITUDES

* Gallardo's fourth homer of his career breaks his tie with Brooks Kieschnick for most home runs by a pitcher in franchise history.

* Gallardo's previous career high in strikeouts was eight against Kansas City in 2007.
