PHOENIX (AP) - Free-agent infielder Felipe Lopez has signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks for a reported $3.5 million.
"We feel that Felipe fits our club well," general manager Josh Byrnes said on Friday. "He is a switch hitter with an ability to impact the game with power, speed and defense."The club didn't confirm the terms reported by The Associated Press on Thursday.
The 28-year-old Lopez has spent eight seasons in the majors and split this year between Washington and St. Louis. He batted .283 with six homers and 46 RBIs in 143 games.
