Byrnes headed for DL with strained left hamstring
PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Eric Byrnes is headed for the disabled list with a strained left hamstring, one week after coming off the DL with a right hamstring injury.

Arizona manager Bob Melvin said the club would place Byrnes on the DL on Tuesday but had not decided on a corresponding move.

The left fielder, who spent a month on the DL, pulled up as he tried to steal third in the second inning of Arizona's 6-3 victory over Milwaukee on Monday night. He never reached the bag and was thrown out by Jason Kendall. He limped off the field and into the clubhouse. Jeff Salazar replaced him.

"It looked like he had the base stolen, and a step or two before he started to go into his dive, it went on him," Melvin said. "It's definitely DL. How long? We're not 100 percent sure."

Byrnes has been slowed by injuries to both hamstrings this season.

"It got him, and for me it was worse than any of the other ones he had," Melvin said.

Byrnes doubled in his only at-bat Monday, his third hit in 23 at-bats since being activated. He is batting .209 with six homers and 23 RBIs.
