Arizona Diamondbacks Roster Report 2009-05-13

Arizona Diamondbacks Roster Report 2009-05-13
--OF/1B Conor Jackson has been unable to shake a sore throat and flu-like symptoms that have bothered him the last week, so the D-backs placed him on the disabled list to give him time to recover. Jackson, who hit a career-high .300 last season, had only two hits in his last 24 at-bats, dropping his average to .182. "We're going to do a full battery of tests and rule out just about everything," manager A.J. Hinch said. "Get him healthy again and back on his feet. This game is hard enough as it is when you are completely on your feet. When you are battling a temperature, cough and aches, it can be almost impossible."

--SS Stephen Drew walked in a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth inning after being activated from the disabled list before the game, taking OF/1B Conor Jackson's roster spot. Drew had not played since April 24 after aggravating his left hamstring April 17. He was 3-for-9 with a triple in two rehab games at Class AAA Reno, and he will start Wednesday, manager A.J. Hinch said.

--LHP Clay Zavada was recalled from Class AA Mobile to add a fresh arm to an already thin bullpen. Zavada, 24, was 1-0 with a 2.51 ERA in nine appearances in Mobile, with 17 strikeouts and only eight hits allowed in 14 1/3 innings. He is a candidate to be returned to the minor leagues Wednesday, however, when RHP Bryan Augenstein's contract is purchased from Mobile.

MEDICAL WATCH:

SS Stephen Drew (left hamstring strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 25. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Reno on May 10, and he was activated May 12.

OF/1B Conor Jackson (illness) went on the 15-day disabled list May 12.

RHP Yusmeiro Petit (right shoulder strain) went on the 15-day disabled list May 9.

1B Tony Clark (strained ligament in right hand) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 5.

RHP Tom Gordon (torn left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list May 4.

RHP Brandon Webb (right shoulder bursitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 7. He threw a bullpen session April 21 but missed a session April 24 and was shut down. Webb is likely out until June.
