Arizona Diamondbacks Roster Report 2009-05-12

Arizona Diamondbacks Roster Report 2009-05-12
--OF/1B Conor Jackson (flu) was held out of the starting lineup for the third straight game, although he popped out in a pinch-hit appearance. "He's still under the weather," manager A.J. Hinch said. "We're getting tests done to make sure we know exactly what is going on. He's getting better each day, but not quite as fast as we hoped." Jackson has two hits in his last 24 at-bats, and his batting average is at a season-low .182.

--SS Josh Wilson threw a scoreless ninth inning Monday, using a fastball that registered 88 mph on the Chase Field radar gun. Wilson walked a batter but threw a double-play grounder to get out of the inning. It was his second major league pitching appearance -- he pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Tampa Bay in a 14-8 loss at Florida on June 8, 2007.

--IF Ryan Roberts set career highs with three hits and two RBI Sunday, making his second start of the season at third base when manager A.J. Hinch put nine right-handed hitters in the lineup against Washington LHP Scott Olsen. In 54 previous major league plate appearances, Roberts had six hits and two RBI during small parts of three seasons with Toronto and Texas.

--3B Mark Reynolds hit his eighth homer Monday while returning to his regular position after making his first career start at first base Sunday, another maneuver manager A.J. Hinch used to stack his lineup against a lefty. "He's our third baseman. Getting the guys in the lineup at the most advantageous times is key," Hinch said. "Certainly, any switches that take place in the National League, he could see time over there (first). I told him there is no hidden message there; he's going to see more time at third base than anywhere else."
