The D-backs were beginning to get some production from OF Justin Upton, whose hitting streak reached 10 games after their split of a four-game series in Milwaukee. Now, if the rest of the outfielders would follow suit -- Chris Young ended that series with one hit in his previous 21 at-bats, Eric Byrnes was hitting .164 and Conor Jackson was at .203. The bullpen took a hit when RHP Tom Gordon landed on the disabled list with a left leg injury after a collision in a play at the plate Sunday. It came only a week after he was activated from the disabled list for the first time this season after offseason elbow surgery.
PLAYER NEWS: --INF Augie Ojeda, who started at second base to give Felipe Lopez a day off, tied his career high with three hits, doubling in the first inning and singling in the third and seventh. Ojeda is hitting .340 while playing mostly shortstop as Steven Drew recovers from a hamstring injury. A switch hitter, he is hitting .366 against right-handers.
--RHP Max Scherzer remained winless in 12 career starts despite making his second consecutive quality start, limiting the Dodgers to two earned runs in six innings after pitching six scoreless innings against Milwaukee on April 30. Scherzer is 0-3 with a 3.38 ERA this season, his first in the rotation full time, after going 0-4 with a 3.05 ERA in 16 appearances (seven starts) as a rookie in 2008. The D-backs have scored six runs while he was on the mound in his five starts this season.
--3B Mark Reynolds has seven home runs in his last 70 at-bats after hitting two in the last three games. He has homered in back-to-back games three times this season and leads the D-backs in homers and RBIs (14).
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Tom Gordon (torn left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list May 4.
SS Stephen Drew (left hamstring strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 25.
RHP Brandon Webb (right shoulder bursitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 7. He threw a bullpen session April 21 but missed a session April 24 and was shut down. Webb is likely out until June.
