Arizona Diamondbacks Roster Report 2009-04-21
RHP Brandon Webb is eligible to return from the disabled list Wednesday but is unlikely to be ready to pitch by then.

PLAYER NEWS:

--SS Stephen Drew (left hamstring) did some pregame running Monday but was held out of the starting lineup for the third straight game after feeling a twinge while running out a groundball in the third inning Friday at San Francisco. "We don't want it to linger. That's why we're taking care of it now," Drew said. Manager Bob Melvin expects Drew to start Tuesday or Wednesday.

--RHP Yusmeiro Petit will make his second start of the season Tuesday in place of RHP Brandon Webb (bursitis, right shoulder), who is scheduled to throw a bullpen session earlier Tuesday. Webb is eligible to return from the disabled list Wednesday but is not likely to be activated until next week at the earliest. Petit lost his first start to Los Angeles on April 11, giving up three runs in five innings.

--RHP Tom Gordon (elbow) gave up three hits and two runs in one inning Sunday for Class AAA Reno, in his first rehab appearance. One of the hits was a bunt single and another was a looping single to right field. Gordon is scheduled to pitch for Reno again Tuesday.

--RHP Jon Garland had his second quality start of the season while winning his first career appearance against Colorado on Monday, 6-3. Garland has beaten the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Rockies this season in his first career starts against both. Garland spent his previous nine seasons in the American League although he had faced the majority of the NL teams in interleague play.

MEDICAL WATCH:

SS Stephen Drew (sore left hamstring) left the April 17 game and didn't play April 18-20. He is day-to-day.

RHP Brandon Webb (right shoulder bursitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 7. The ailment was not considered serious, and he could be back in late April.

RHP Tom Gordon (right elbow surgery in October 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Reno on April 19, and he could return to the Diamondbacks by May 1.
