Arizona Diamondbacks Roster Report 2009-04-18

Arizona Diamondbacks Roster Report 2009-04-18
The Diamondbacks placed RHP Brandon Webb (right shoulder bursitis) on the disabled list April 12, and they added RHP Bobby Korecky to the bullpen the next day. RHP Max Scherzer is expected to be activated from the disabled list April 14, when he is to make his first start of the season after being slightly delayed out of spring training with right shoulder inflammation.

PLAYER NEWS:

--SS Stephen Drew left Friday's game in the last of the fourth inning with tightness in his left hamstring and was replaced by IF Augie Ojeda, the only other shortstop on the roster. Drew has four extra-base hits and five RBIs in the first 10 games of the season. He is considered day-to-day.

--RHP Brandon Webb played catch for about 10 minutes at AT&T Park on Friday, his first throwing session since feeling pain in his right shoulder Sunday, and reported no soreness. Webb was placed on the disabled list Sunday, retroactive to April 7. Webb hopes to throw on flat ground Sunday, but it appears unlikely that he will return to the rotation when he is eligible to return from the disabled list Wednesday.

--2B Felipe Lopez has five doubles in his first 10 games with the D-backs, tied with OF Chris Young for tops on the team. Lopez and Young are tied for third in the NL in doubles, one behind the league leaders. Young became the third player in franchise history, after OF Luis Gonzalez and 1B/3B Chad Tracy, to have at least 40 doubles in a season when he had a career-high 42 last season.

--RHP Yusmeiro Petit, who filled in for Webb on April 11, will make his second start of the season Tuesday against Colorado, manager Bob Melvin announced.

MEDICAL WATCH:

SS Stephen Drew (sore left hamstring) left the April 17 game and is day-to-day.

RHP Max Scherzer (shoulder stiffness) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He made a rehab start for Class A Visalia on April 9, and he was activated April 14.

RHP Brandon Webb (right shoulder bursitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 7. The ailment was not considered serious, and he could be back in late April.

RHP Tom Gordon (right elbow surgery in October 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He will throw in extended spring training on April 16, and he could return to the Diamondbacks by May 1.
