Arizona Diamondbacks Notes, Quotes 2008-09-05
--SS Stephen Drew leads NL shortstops with 37 doubles after collecting four in the past five games. He is hitting .288 on the season, .315 in the leadoff spot, which he has occupied since July 12. "It's been a maturing process for him," third base and infield coach Chip Hale said. "He came with a high pedigree."

--OF/1B Adam Dunn's game-winning double in a 4-3 victory over St. Louis on Wednesday was the Diamondbacks' 10th come-from behind victory since July 23 and their third walk-off victory of the season. 1B Chad Tracy's homer gave the D-backs a 1-0, 10-inning victory over Kansas City on June 13, and OF Conor Jackson's two-run single capped a six-run ninth inning in a 6-5 victory over Milwaukee on July 3.

--INF Augie Ojeda's pinch double Wednesday was his eighth pinch hit of the season, tying OF Jeff Salazar for the team high. Ojeda is hitting .363 with five RBIs as a pinch hitter this season.

--The D-backs set their rotation so their top three starters -- RHP Dan Haren, RHP Brandon Webb and LHP Randy Johnson -- will pitch in the three-game series at Los Angeles this weekend, the final series between the top two teams in the NL West this season. Haren will start Friday. The D-backs are 8-7 in their first 15 games against the Dodgers.

--RHP Brandon Webb, 19-6 with a 3.19 ERA, worked on mechanics in his Wednesday bullpen session after giving up 12 earned runs in his last eight innings over two starts. "My arm has not been in the right slot at the right time," he said. "I'm working on trying to stay on top of the ball. It'll come back. I hope it's sooner rather than later." After a similar two-game stretch in mid-June this season, Webb won his next eight decisions.

BY THE NUMBERS: 148 -- Consecutive days the D-backs led or were tied for the NL West lead, through the end of August.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "'Webby' has gone a great job. He's done some amazing things. He's still human, no matter how super-human you're going to make him. You battle with him, because you know he's battling with you." -- OF Chris Young, after RHP Brandon Webb gave up eight runs, tying a career high, in an 8-2 loss to Los Angeles on Sunday, failing in his second attempt to win his 20th game this season.
