Dunn, who has 14 RBIs in 21 games with the D-backs, was mobbed as he stood at second base after his hit. "It's huge," Dunn said. "That's all you can ask for, to be put in that situation. A walk-off win is one of the most exciting things in sports."
--1B Chad Tracy, making his first start in four games, had three singles and was hit by a pitch to break a 4-for-33 slide and raise his average to .270. He was removed for a pinch runner in the eighth, and Adam Dunn moved to first base for the ninth with Alex Romero going to right. --RHP Chad Qualls got the victory in both of the D-backs' victories over St. Louis in their series, improving to 4-8. He retired the meat of the Cardinals' order Wednesday, getting Nos. 2-3-4 hitters 3B Troy Glaus (groundout), 1B Albert Pujols (pop-up) and OF Ryan Ludwick (groundout). Qualls has been scored upon in only one of his last 14 appearances, dropping his ERA to 3.30.
--OF Eric Byrnes (left hamstring) was encouraged by results of his MRI exam Tuesday but understands that he will not return this season. "I can't look at this year," Byrnes said. "The bottom line is I'll be here the next couple of years. Those are very important for me and for the team. I have to make sure I come to spring training 100 percent. I have to be cautious and not jeopardize the next couple of years." Byrnes is in the first year of a three-year, $30 million deal this season. He said he likely will play in the Instructional League to get some at-bats after getting only 206 this season while playing with a hamstring injury he suffered at the start of spring training.
--OF Justin Upton was held out of a second consecutive game Wednesday as a precaution after being forced to leave Monday's game when he was struck behind the right ear by an errant pickoff throw to first base. "Head injuries are alarming to me," manager Bob Melvin said. "He'll be that much more ready Friday." Upton does not have a concussion, according to the D-backs, but he experienced headaches Tuesday.
