Dbackszone.com | Arizona Diamondbacks News, diamondbacks Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --OF Alex Romero had his first career three-hit game in an 11-5 loss to Atlanta on Friday, when he finished a home run short of the cycle. Since becoming a platoon starter in right field after an injury to OF Justin Upton (left oblique sprain), Romero is hitting .304 with eight RBIs and three stolen bases.
--In his two starts after retiring the first 20 batters he faced in a 3-0 victory at San Diego on July 29, LHP Doug Davis has given up 15 hits and 12 runs in six innings. Davis did not get out of the second inning against Los Angeles on Aug. 3 and did not get out of the fifth on Friday against Atlanta. His ERA has risen from 3.86 to 4.75. --C Chris Snyder drove in runs with a sacrifice fly and a double Friday and continues to have the best ratio of RBIs to at-bats among NL catchers with at least 75 games behind the plate. Snyder, who missed three weeks with a fractured testicle, has 46 RBIs and is averaging a RBI every 5.1 at-bats. "I'm just trying to stay consistent," said Snyder, 27. "I just try to get on base. That has always been my approach at the plate -- see pitches and do what I can. Get a guy over. Get a guy in."
--SS Stephen Drew extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a leadoff home run Friday. His homer was his 14th, extending his career high after hitting 12 last season. Drew, who later singled, is hitting .302 with five multi-hit games during his streak. Since being moved to leadoff July 12, Drew has hit safely in 21 of 23 games.
--RHP Leo Rosales has given up only one run in his last 7 2/3 innings covering five appearances and has pitched three scoreless innings in the first two games of a weekend series against Atlanta. Rosales' best pitch is his changeup.
BY THE NUMBERS: 312 -- Walks given up by the Diamondbacks pitching staff through Aug. 3, the lowest total in the National League.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I get really frustrated when I walk guys. A lot of times, a big inning starts with a walk. I've been pretty aggressive. I like to challenge guys." -- RHP Dan Haren, who has only 24 walks this season and who leads the NL with a ratio of 5.6 strikeouts per walk.
