Arizona Diamondbacks Notes, Quotes 2008-04-29
--RHP Brandon Webb is 6-0 for the third time in four seasons after beating San Diego, 2-1, on Sunday. He was 6-0 in 2005 and 8-0 in 2006, when he won the N.L. Cy Young Award. After winning Sunday, Webb is 3-2 in five career matchups against San Diego righty Jake Peavy, the 2007 NL Cy Young Award recipient. There have been nine quality starts among the two in those five games.

--OF Justin Upton was in the starting lineup Monday after missing his first game of the season Sunday because of a left hamstring cramp suffered while running out a ground ball in the sixth inning of Saturday's 8-7, 13-inning loss to San Diego.

--LHP Doug Davis (thyroid cancer) is to begin radiation iodine treatment Tuesday, the Diamondbacks said. The treatment can include taking as much as a week's worth of iodine tablets, which can weaken the body while in the system. "These pills are supposed to zap you, so we'll see," general manager Josh Byrnes said when asked about a timetable for Davis' return. "He's still playing catch and has kept his arm in good shape. He's given himself every chance to be on track as much as he can."

--3B Mark Reynolds, 2-for-22 with 14 strikeouts on the most recent five-game road trip, had a two-run double and a stolen base in the Diamondbacks' 5-3 victory over Houston. Reynolds has three stolen bases in 25 games this season. He had none in 111 games as a rookie last season.

--The D-Backs were 17-5 in a 22-game stretch against the N.L. West that began April 4 and concluded Sunday. They won at least four games from every division opponent and won seven of the eight series, splitting the other. The Diamondbacks play only three more series (nine games) inside the division before the All-Star break.

--RHP Micah Owings is to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, after which the Diamondbacks may have a better understanding of his availability for a scheduled start Saturday. Owings suffered a sprained right ankle when he landed awkwardly on second after doubling in the fifth inning of a game at San Diego on Saturday. They could push him back as far as May 6 without causing a strain on the rotation because of an off day Thursday.

--RHP Brandon Lyon, the closer, retired all three batters for his eighth save, running his streak to 15 straight batters retired. He has made 10 consecutive scoreless appearances.

BY THE NUMBERS: 17-5 -- Diamondbacks' record in a 22-game stretch against the NL West that concluded April 27.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Every game counts. We'll take it. It's a 22-game block, more than a quarter of our games in the division. To do well is important. But some teams that were off to great starts last year didn't get to October, so we are not overestimating what happens. But it is good to win games in your division." -- General manager Josh Byrnes, on the D-backs' 17-5 record against the NL West.
