--OF Eric Byrnes was determined to have Grade-1 strains in both hamstrings after an MRI exam Friday, the D-backs said. Byrnes will take only treatment and do no running for five-to-seven days, manager Bob Melvin said, before resuming his running program. With the time off, it is uncertain if he will be available when he is eligible to return from the disabled list June 11. "It's pretty consistent with what we thought," manager Bob Melvin said.
--2B Orlando Hudson broke up Washington RHP Tim Redding's no-hitter with a home run in the fourth inning and has reached via hit or walk in 28 of his last 29 games, during which he is hitting .366 with eight doubles, four triples and three home runs. He has a six-game hitting streak, in which he is 10-for-21 with four doubles and two homers. --3B Chad Tracy had his first home run since joining the team Monday, a bases-empty homer that was one of his two hits.
--D-backs general manager Josh Byrnes, scouting director Tom Allison and other front-office personnel attended the NCAA Regional at Arizona State, 20 miles east of Chase Field. ASU 3B Brett Wallace and 1B Ike Davis are considered likely first-round selections in the June 5 draft. Vanderbilt also is in the field, and 3B Pedro Alvarez is considered by many the top player available. The D-backs have the No. 26 pick in the first round.
--OF Jeff Salazar started in left field Friday as manager Bob Melvin continued his platoon in the absence of OF Eric Byrnes. Salazar has started against both right-handers the D-backs have faced in the four games Byrnes has missed, while IF/OF Chris Burke has started in left field against both lefties. The two are 0-for-12 as starters in Byrnes' absence. 1B/3B Chad Tracy could be an option in left field, Melvin said. Tracy played the second half of 2005 in right field.
--1B Conor Jackson left Friday's game in the top of the eighth inning after suffering a right quadriceps strain while making an awkward move as he attempted to get out of the way of an inside pitch during an at-bat in the fifth inning. "It's frustrating," Jackson said. 1B/3B Chad Tracy, who started at third base, moved to first and 3B Mark Reynolds entered. Tracy will start at first base Saturday, manager Bob Melvin said.
