Arizona Diamondbacks Notes, Quotes 2009-04-24
--The Diamondbacks' 6-9 start, due in part to the absence of opening-day starter and rotation anchor Brandon Webb, is tied for the fourth worst in the 12-year history of the franchise. History suggests it does not have to be fatal. The 2001 D-backs won 92 games and the World Series after a 6-9 start.--By beating Colorado 2-0 on Wednesday, the Diamondbacks won their first series of the season, taking two out of the three from the Rockies in their second meeting at Chase Field this season. Arizona won one of three games in each of its first four series of the year. The D-backs are 3-3 against the Rockies after going 15-3 against them last year while winning all six series.
--INF/OF Ryan Roberts' run-scoring single Wednesday was the second RBI of his career. His first came on Aug. 3, 2006, when he homered in his first major league start for Toronto at Yankee Stadium. That came in his fourth major league at-bat.
BY THE NUMBERS: 1 -- Runs the D-backs had scored in the 19 innings that RHP Dan Haren had been on the mound in his first three starts this season, all quality starts and all losses.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "When you don't swing the bat, you put a lot of pressure on your pitching staff to be perfect." -- Manager Bob Melvin.
