Dbackszone.com | Arizona Diamondbacks News, diamondbacks Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --OF/1B Conor Jackson's pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning Tuesday was the third pinch homer of his career. 3B Mark Reynolds' pinch homer in the fifth was his second. The D-backs had three pinch homers all of last season -- by OF Jeff Salazar, RHP Micah Owings and 1B Josh Whitesell, none of whom is with the team this season.
--The D-backs have made four quality starts this season, two by RHP Dan Haren, but only one has resulted in a victory, RHP Jon Garland's 9-4 victory over the Dodgers on April 10. The D-backs scored six runs, total, in their first five losses. LHP Doug Davis gave up two solo homers in eight innings in a 2-1 loss to St. Louis on Monday after going eight innings only once last year, when he missed six weeks after the removal of a cancerous thyroid. "I'll take that 31 more times, as long as we score more than that," Davis said. --D-backs bench coach Kirk Gibson was saddened by the death of former Detroit RHP Mark Fidrych on Monday. Gibson played with Fidrych while he was on rehab assignments at Class A Lakeland and Class AAA Evansville, and Fidrych and Dave Rozema, Gibson's brother-in-law, were roommates with the Tigers. "'Bird' was a very outgoing, charismatic, friendly guy. He enjoyed life every day," Gibson said. Fidrych visited with Gibson when the D-backs played in Boston last season. "He loved his farm. He loved his truck," Gibson said. "He was a very energetic guy."
BY THE NUMBERS: 4 -- Consecutive opening-day starts in which 1B Tony Clark has homered: 2009 (D-backs, twice), 2004 (New York Yankees), 2003 (New York Mets) and 2002 (Boston).
QUOTE TO NOTE: "There's no concern. The MRIs are all good. I mean, if there's no structural damage, there's nothing to worry about." -- RHP Brandon Webb, after being placed on the disabled list April 12 with shoulder soreness.
