Arizona Diamondbacks Notes, Quotes 2008-09-22
--RHP Dan Haren continued a winning progression Sunday when he recorded his career-high 16th victory in a 13-4 win in Colorado. Haren won 14 games in Oakland in 2005-06 and 15 in 2007, his last season with the A's. "This reminded me a little bit of April," said Haren, who got five runs of support in the first inning Sunday. "We got a lot of runs in the beginning, and I could be aggressive in the strike zone."

--OF Chris Young scored a career-high four runs, drove in four and finished a double short of the third cycle in franchise history in a 13-4 victory over Colorado on Sunday. "I wasn't feeling sexy by any means," Young said. "I felt all right. Then that first blooper (a single to center in the first) fell in ..." Young walked in the seventh and lined out to third base in the ninth.

--SS Stephen Drew doubled Sunday, the fourth double in his last five games. He has 41 doubles, 11 triples and 19 home runs this season, leaving him one homer short of joining Milwaukee's Robin Yount (1982, 1984) and Boston's Nomar Garciaparra (1997) as the only shortstops in major league history with a 40-10-20 season.

--OF Conor Jackson tied a career-high with four hits Sunday while scoring twice and driving in a run.

--RHP Chad Qualls has converted all four of his save opportunities since taking over as closer Sept. 12 and has not been scored upon in his last 12 appearances.

--2B David Eckstein (left knee) has missed two games after being hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of a 3-2 loss to Colorado on Friday. He is expected to play in St. Louis on Monday, manager Bob Melvin said.

--LHP Doug Davis has given up three earned runs or fewer in his last eight starts but has only a 2-1 record to show for it. Davis has no-decisions in his last four starts despite a 2.59 ERA. The D-backs have won three of those games.

--Rookie 1B Josh Whitesell hit his first major league home run Sunday as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning, driving a 2-0 fastball over the fence in right-center field at Coors Field. "It was exciting. I was kind of floating around," said Whitesell, who had his best minor league season at Class AAA Tucson with 36 doubles, 26 homers and 110 RBIs.

BY THE NUMBERS: .108 -- The D-backs' batting average with runners in scoring position in a 14-game stretch that began in Los Angeles on Sept. 5, when they lost five games in the NL West standings to the Dodgers. They were 11 of 102 through Sept. 19.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We have guys who still believe we are in it. You play 162 (games) to the fullest and see what happens at the end." -- OF Chris Young.
