---OF Justin Upton, who had a career-high four hits Sunday, had two more extra-base hits Monday and has eight hits in the last three games, including two homers and four doubles. He hit third Monday, the third time he has done that this season, after coming up a triple short of the cycle Sunday. "He's the one guy we have right now hitting with a lot of confidence," manager Bob Melvin said.

-- The Diamondbacks were 0-for-3 while hitting with runners in scoring position in a 3-1 victory over San Francisco on Monday, continuing a trend. They were 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position in a 2-1 10-inning loss to Cincinnati on Sunday and were 2-for-35 (.057) with runners in scoring position while losing two of three games in the series. They are 7-for-76 (.092) with runners in scoring position in their last 10 games.

--1B Josh Whitesell was 1-for-3 with a single in the seventh inning Monday, getting his first major league hit in his first major league start. He was given a start as the Diamondbacks "continue to look for other recipes," manager Bob Melvin said, for a team that has scored only 23 runs in its last 10 games. Whitesell, 26, hit .328 with 36 doubles, 26 home runs and 110 RBIs at Class AAA Tucson this season, breaking Lyle Overbay's franchise record for RBIs.

--RHP Brandon Lyon pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning Sunday, his first game since being replaced in the closer's role by RHP Chad Qualls.

--OF Conor Jackson, who missed the Cincinnati series with a right shoulder injury, took batting practice outside for the first time Monday and will play catch for the first time Tuesday with an eye toward returning to the lineup Tuesday or Wednesday. "It's extremely frustrating right now," said Jackson, whose 72 RBIs are third on the team behind Mark Reynolds (92) and Chris Young (75). "It felt good, so that's good news."

--SS Stephen Drew is expected back for Tuesday's game after missing two games to attend funeral services for his grandmother in Georgia.

--LHP Doug Davis has not given up more than three earned runs in any of his last seven starts after giving up only one earned run in seven innings of a no decision against San Francisco on Monday. He has a 3.27 ERA in that span, although he is only 2-1.

BY THE NUMBERS: 8 -- Games the D-backs lost to Los Angeles in a span of 12 days, from Aug. 30 to Sept. 10.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "From here on out, it's like the World Series every game. That's the way I look at it. We can't give Los Angeles any ground. We have to put pressure on them and keep the pressure on them." -- RHP Chad Qualls.
