--RHP Max Scherzer has made two striking starts since returning to the rotation Sept. 7, the second one Sunday. Although Scherzer has not gotten a decision in either start, he has given up four runs in 11 innings while striking out 20. He struck out the side in the first inning against Cincinnati on Sunday, when he had nine strikeouts in six innings. He is 0-2 with a 2.80 ERA in 14 appearances, five starts, this season.

--RHP Chad Qualls has taken over the closer's role from RHP Brandon Lyon, who has converted 26 of 31 save opportunities but has given up 14 earned runs in his last 10 2/3 innings. Qualls has been scored on only once in his last 19 appearances. "I'm glad I've got the opportunity. I think I've earned it," said Qualls, who got his third save Friday and has converted three of 11 save opportunities.

--OF Conor Jackson (right shoulder soreness) missed the Cincinnati series after feeling pain in the final game of the San Francisco series Wednesday. Jackson had an MRI exam Friday that showed no structural damage.

--RHP Jon Rauch dropped to 0-6 with the D-backs since being acquired July 22 after giving up a bases-empty home run to Reds OF Corey Patterson in the 10th inning Sunday. Rauch has given up 10 earned runs in his last 10 innings over 12 appearances.

--INF Augie Ojeda has been hit by a pitch 10 times in 236 plate appearances this season. He had been hit only four times in his previous six seasons.

--SS Stephen Drew missed Sunday's game to return to Georgia for his grandmother's funeral. Drew is expected to be back Tuesday, for the second game of a four-game series against San Francisco.

--The D-backs were 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position in a 2-1 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday, continuing to struggle in run-producing situations. They were 2-for-35 with runners in scoring position in losing two of three to the Reds after going 5-for-38 on an 0-6 road trip to Los Angeles and San Francisco in their previous six games.

BY THE NUMBERS: 8 -- Games the D-backs lost to Los Angeles in a span of 12 days, from Aug. 30 to Sept. 10.
