Shortstop Stephen Drew joined select company Monday when he became the third Diamondback to hit for the cycle, the first ever to do it at Chase Field.

Outfielder Luis Gonzalez was the first, at Houston in 2000, and first baseman Greg Colbrunn had one in San Diego in 2002.

Drew also tied a franchise record with five hits -- he had two doubles -- in the Diamondbacks' 8-6 victory over St. Louis, sparking the team from a 5-1 deficit to snap a two-game losing streak.

"To hit for the cycle, I'm kind of in awe. It's fun, but it wouldn't have meant anything if we didn't win," Drew said.

Drew, who remained in the leadoff spot with newcomer David Eckstein batting No. 2 in his first game with the Diamondbacks, used the whole field, singling to left in the first inning and tripling to right-center in the third.

His homer went into the seats in right, and he followed outfielder Jeff Salazar's pinch single with a ground-rule double to left field in the seventh to put runners on second and third with no outs. That set up Eckstein's RBI single to break a 6-6 tie. Drew improved his batting average to .289, the highest it has been since May 21.

Asked how locked in Drew is, manager Bob Melvin said: "Like on a 1-to-10 scale? Pretty close to a 10. It seems like he's getting hits every time he comes up."

"He's one of the most exciting players coming up in the game," Eckstein said.

DIAMONDBACKS 8, CARDINALS 6: SS Stephen Drew hit for the cycle while tying a franchise record with five hits and the Diamondbacks overcame a 5-1 deficit after to break a two-game losing streak.

3B Mark Reynolds hit a two-run homer to tie the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning after Diamondbacks LHP Randy Johnson gave up four homers in 3 1/3 innings. Drew's ground-rule double set up 2B David Eckstein's tie-breaking single to right field.

Eckstein had two RBIs in his Diamondbacks debut after being acquired from Toronto on Sunday, also driving in Drew with a sacrifice fly. 1B Adam Dunn and OF Chris Young also had homers for the Diamondbacks.
