Though Dan Haren sports some of the best numbers in baseball, he's been having trouble lately early in ballgames.

In the first innings of Haren's last five starts, he has given up a total of 11 runs, including four Wednesday to the Padres.

San Diego had an aggressive game plan early, swinging at anything and everything near the zone. Haren threw 25 strikes in the first inning compared to just two balls, and the Padres' batters were all over them.

Haren said he didn't make an adjustment quickly enough, but he will be ready next time. His next start also will be against San Diego.

"Hopefully I'll be able to make the adjustment and go out there and have a better game plan against them," Haren said after his start.

Haren was able to settle down, giving up just one run through the next five innings and picking up the win after the offense scored six runs for him in the first two innings.

DIAMONDBACKS 4, PADRES 1: Brandon Webb threw seven shutout innings to gain his major league-leading 19th win, setting a career high. Conor Jackson had a two-run double in the fifth.
