Pitching their strength, the Diamondbacks are counting on their top four starters to carry them down the stretch in the NL West.

Right-handers Brandon Webb and Dan Haren and left-handers Randy Johnson and Doug Davis will pitch on four days' rest the remainder of the season, manager Bob Melvin said, meaning the top four are scheduled to make 33 of the D-backs' final 40 starts.

"For the most part, we will go with a four-man rotation," Melvin said.

Johnson, who pitches Sunday, has nine starts remaining, while the other three have eight. The decision also gives Johnson an extra shot at 300 victories. He got his 294th Tuesday.

Although Webb leads the NL with 177 innings after pitching eight in a 12-2 victory Friday and Haren is sixth with 167 innings after throwing eight -- on 118 pitches -- at Colorado on Thursday, the D-Backs are comfortable after having monitored their rotation closely all season.

"We do have guys with innings, but that's why we give them that extra day (off early in the year), so they will be a little more rested when we get into the stretch," Melvin said.

Webb, Haren and Johnson made 10 of their first 22 starts on five or six days' rest, Melvin choosing to give them an extra day or two instead of skipping another starter.

Right-hander Yusmeiro Petit, their fifth starter, figures to have seven more starts, although right-hander Max Scherzer is on the radar, too.

DIAMONDBACKS 12, ASTROS 2: RHP Brandon Webb won his major league-leading 18th game Friday with his eighth consecutive quality start and the D-backs got home runs from three of their homecoming contingent -- C Chris Snyder, OF Chris Young and 2B Chris Burke -- in snapping the Astros' eight-game winning streak. Snyder and Young grew up in Houston, while Burke played four seasons with the Astros before joining the D-backs in the Jose Valverde offseason trade. 1B Tony Clark reached base five times, on a double, two singles and two walks.
