Brandon Lyon's 25-inning scoreless streak, snapped Tuesday, was the longest among major league relievers since late 2006, and it included some pretty amazing numbers.

In the time since Lyon was last scored upon April 6, he made 24 appearances over 73 days, faced 104 batters and threw 401 pitches. Gasoline prices rose 76 cents a gallon, according to petroleum industry figures.

"Unbelievable, and kind of under the radar if you are not around us all the time," Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin said of Lyon, in his first season as a closer since 2005.

Lyon converted all 13 save opportunities in that run, a streak that remains since he was pitching simply to get work Tuesday after four days off. Because the D-backs had trouble scoring runs in May and early June, a half-dozen of his appearances were in non-save situations.

"Those can be the most difficult, when your team is down and you don't have the adrenalin you normally do coming in to close," Melvin said. "To do it in whatever fashion he did for as long as he did ... a pretty remarkable streak."

Lyon, a free agent after this season, gave up a homer to Colorado's Matt Holliday on April 6, putting his ERA at 12.00. It was down to 1.29 before Oakland's Bobby Crosby homered Tuesday.

Cleveland starter Cliff Lee has the longest scoreless streak in the majors this season, 28 innings. Lyon's streak is a D-backs record for a reliever, and the longest for a reliever in the majors since Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez had 31 straight scoreless innings from June 26 to Sept. 15, 2006.

Arizona's Brandon Webb pitched 42 consecutive scoreless innings last season, tied for the 12th-longest streak in major league history.

DIAMONDBACKS 11, A'S 1: RHP Dan Haren beat his former teammates with his arm and bat. He gave up only one run and four hits in seven innings, and he hit a three-run double in the third inning that gave Arizona an 8-0 lead. Haren doubled after A's RHP Joe Blanton intentionally walked OF Jeff Salazar with runners on first and third and two outs. OF Chris Young had a three-run home run to cap a five-run first inning as the D-backs tied their season-high totals for runs and hits (15).
