At his first official pre-game press meeting Saturday, new D-backs manager A.J. Hinch opened with a joke.

"Well, I now have experience," said Hinch, 34, after managing his first game at any level the night before, a 5-4 loss to Washington.

Hinch, 34, was promoted from his position as the team's director of player development to replace Bob Melvin after the club's 12-17 start

Now Hinch has his first victory.

The D-backs had a season-high 17 hits in their 10-8 victory over Washington, avoiding a series sweep and making Hinch 1-2.

"Granted, it's great to get a first win as a manager, but honestly, this team needed it," said Hinch, whose team snapped a three-game losing streak. "I think one of the strengths can be the length of our lineup. We have enough guys that can help turn the lineup over and grind through at-bats. When we are good, that happens."

The D-backs tied a season high with 10 runs. Every starter, including right-hander Max Scherzer, had one hit, and six players had at least two. They overcome deficits of 2-1, 4-3 and 6-5.

"The guys never quit, never got down, and kept upbeat," Hinch said.

DIAMONDBACKS 10, NATIONALS 8: After scoring 14 runs in their previous six games, the D-backs had a season-high 17 hits and tied their season high in runs while breaking a three-game losing streak. C Chris Snyder reached base five times, with two doubles and three walks, and drove in three runs.
