The Diamondbacks turned the second triple play in franchise history in Los Angeles on Monday, and the game situation was made for it.

After Dodgers catcher Russell Martin walked and outfielder Matt Kemp reached first on shortstop Josh Wilson's fielding error in the bottom of the second inning, Doug Davis ran the count on 3-2 to third baseman Casey Blake, the No. 8 hitter in the order.

With the runners moving, Blake hit a line drive to Wilson, who threw to second baseman Felipe Lopez to double Martin off second base. Lopez pivoted and threw to first baseman Conor Jackson before Kemp could return to first base. Blake started a triple play at third with Cleveland on Aug. 27, 2007.

"I knew the runners were moving, and the ball almost came out of my glove, so I was just making sure I held onto it first. And once I did, I knew we were going to get three outs. To be a part of one is something special," Wilson said.

It was a little more straightforward than the D-backs' first triple play, which occurred with Randy Johnson on the mound against St. Louis on May 31, 2000 at Chase Field.

With the D-backs leading in the top of the fifth, 3-0, St. Louis pitcher Pat Hentgen and second baseman Placido Polanco singled and shortstop Edgar Renteria reached base on an infield error to load the bases with no outs. Left fielder Shawon Dunston singled to right to drive in one run before first baseman Mark McGwire hit a fly ball to medium deep center field for the first out.

Outfielder Steve Finley's throw to the plate caught Polanco attempting to tag and score, and catcher Damian Miller's relay throw to third base got Renteria, who had a late break while trying to advance.

That came two days after Oakland second baseman Randy Velarde turned an unassisted triple play against the Yankees, and it was the fourth triple play in the major leagues in May of 2000.

DODGERS 7, DIAMONDBACKS 2: 3B Mark Reynolds hit his seventh home run, OF Justin Upton extended his hitting streak to 11 games and the D-backs turned the second triple play in franchise history, but it was not enough to keep the Dodgers from winning their 11th consecutive home game. LHP Doug Davis gave up back-to-back homers to OF Manny Ramirez and OF Andre Ethier in the first inning and walked a season-high four in 4 1/3 innings.
