For right-hander Dan Haren, it was familiar ground. When Haren was removed for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning Wednesday, the Diamondbacks' run count for him stood at one -- for the season.

But after three perfectly frustrating outings, the Diamondbacks found a way to make Haren a winner in his fourth straight quality start. Pinch hitter Ryan Roberts singled to center field to break a scoreless tie in a 2-0 victory over Colorado.

"When I was warming up, I said 'You know what, let's get this for Danny,'" closer Chad Qualls said after preserving the victory despite giving up two singles in the ninth inning.

"I wanted to go out there and go 1-2-3 and make it stress-free for him, but I don't think he would have it any other way but as stressful as possible. I'll apologize to him later for that. I'm sure he'll accept that."

Consider it done.

"Sometimes as a starting pitcher, if you don't win in a while, it seems impossible to win a game," Haren said. "In general, it's hard to win a big-league game. I've learned that throughout the years. I've always learned to enjoy the wins, too.

"You don't want to go through April without winning a game. I was digging myself quite a hole, but I've been proud of the way I've been keeping my team in the game. That's really my job."

Haren is 1-3 with a 1.38 ERA, having given up four earned runs this season. He has lost 3-0, 3-1 and 2-0, and the D-backs have scored three runs during his 26 innings this season, counting Wednesday.

"We finally got the monkey off our back with Danny," D-backs manager Bob Melvin said. "It seemed like as the innings mounted, guys got tighter and tighter, and everybody wanted to be the guy that got the hit for him or drove in the run for him. That puts a little added pressure on you, too."

DIAMONDBACKS 2, ROCKIES 0: PH Ryan Roberts singled in a run to break a scoreless tie in the seventh inning, and OF/1B Conor Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning as the D-backs won their first series of the season, taking two of three against the Rockies. RHP Chad Qualls recorded his fourth save in as many chances.
