Reynolds, who has peaks and valleys, leads the D-backs with 27 home runs and 92 RBIs but has struggled to produce lately. He does not have a homer or a run batted in since hitting a two-run shot against St. Louis on Sept. 1, hitting .234 with three doubles since.
Reynolds leads the major leagues with 191 strikeouts and is on pace to break Ryan Howard's major league record of 199, set last season. The Philadelphia slugger has 190 this year.
"It's something that obviously I want to change," said Reynolds, who is in his first full season after arriving in the majors in May 2007. "There will come a time. Give me a year or two."
Reynolds has been inconsistent in the field and has 31 errors, 30 at third base and one at first. He could become the first player to lead the major leagues in strikeouts and errors in the same season since Minnesota shortstop Zoilo Versalles had 122 strikeouts and 39 errors in 1965. Versalles won the AL MVP award that year.
The last NL player to do it was Philadelphia third baseman Dick Allen, who had 138 strikeouts and 41 errors in 1964.
DIAMONDBACKS 3, GIANTS 2: OF Adam Dunn singled in Conor Jackson with two outs in the last of the eighth inning to keep the D-backs within 3 1/2 games of Los Angeles in the NL West. Jackson singled with two outs in the eighth and stole second base, his career-high ninth steal, on the 2-2 pitch before Dunn lined a ball to right-center on a full count.
OF Justin Upton's two-run triple in the sixth inning gave the D-backs a 2-1, but RHP Juan Cruz gave up a tying homer in the eighth to deprive LHP Randy Johnson of a victory. It is the fifth blown save behind Johnson, who has 294 career victories, this season.
