Arizona Diamondbacks Inside Pitch 2008-09-12
The Diamondbacks lost five games in the NL West standings on their 0-6 trip that concluded Wednesday, and they enter their final 17 games 3 1/2 games behind Los Angeles in the division race.

"The way things are going right now, it's to the point where sulking, getting down or pressing ... it's a time to put an end to that stuff," catcher Chris Snyder said. "It's time to go all out, play your hardest and let the chips fall where they may."

The D-backs led the division by 4 1/2 games after beating the Dodgers at Chase Field on Aug. 29, but they lost the final two games of that series, starting their 2-9 streak. Arizona lost eight games to Los Angeles in the standings in 12 days.

While understanding that they need to take care of their own business, the D-backs can gain strength from the fact that Colorado and Philadelphia overcame leads twice that large in the final two weeks of the 2007 season to make the playoffs.

"You continue to fight," manager Bob Melvin said. "If you do have something to support that further, look at what the Rockies did last year, the Phillies."

The D-backs have slumped across the board lately. They have only four quality starts in their 16 games, have committed 14 errors in their last 11 games and are hitting .139 with runners in scoring position in their last nine.

After scoring 68 runs in Adam Dunn's first 11 games since his arrival Aug. 11, the D-backs have scored more than four runs in only two of their last 16 games, scoring exactly four in three others.
